Knowledge sharing made easy

Social media feeds are not billboards. People do not follow you to hear how good you are every day; they already see enough advertising.

I would rather show what I know by sharing useful information. Then, when someone needs my expertise, they may think of me.

Share what you know

I do this in two ways. I'm blogging regularly about websites, online marketing, and entrepreneurship. I send those posts to my mailing list and share them on Twitter and LinkedIn, the two networks I use most for business.

Many blog ideas come from client questions. If one person asks something that could help others, I write a post about it.

I also share two useful articles by other people each day, usually on topics related to my work and interests. It is a quiet way to show what I care about without constantly promoting myself.

Tools

Here is how I made that sharing routine easy. At the time, I used Instapaper, Buffer and IFTTT together like this:

  1. I followed blogs I liked on Twitter. When an article caught my eye, I saved the tweet as a favorite. IFTTT transferred those favorites to Instapaper automatically.
  2. Later, I read the articles in Instapaper. If one was worth sharing, I liked it there. IFTTT automatically transferred those Instapaper likes to my Buffer queue.
  3. I connected my Twitter account to Buffer and scheduled two posts a day.
  4. Because the setup allowed only one Buffer profile with IFTTT, I used another recipe to copy tweets with the hashtag #in to LinkedIn. Buffer added the hashtag automatically.

That gave followers a steady flow of articles without much extra work: I was already reading them.

Would a routine like this work for you?
