The lazy conversationalist

Googling a simple question can take less time than asking someone else to answer it. So why do so many people ask first?

This post is for the people who routinely hand simple questions to someone else. You can send them this link.

You probably know the type. Conversations with them can be frustrating. They ask on autopilot without first looking for an answer.

I like to call them lazy conversationalists.

I think a life arranged around convenience and effortless rewards can make us reluctant to solve small problems ourselves.

We’ve failed to realize that avoiding suffering makes us end up suffering more. The lazy conversationalist is a result of that.

Every time you search for an answer, you practice finding things out for yourself. Rather than immediately asking others for the answer, you search for the answer yourself.

That habit reaches beyond Google.

It may take longer to find things out yourself. But without pain, there is no growth. Without growth, there is no fulfillment. Without fulfillment, there is no happiness in the long run.

I am not talking about helping someone who struggles to use a computer, or about a company hiring specialists so it can focus on its core business.

I even made a business out of fixing websites for businesses by googling the right solutions.

I mean people who can search for themselves but routinely pass simple questions to others.

If asking is always your first move, you miss the chance to develop the habit of figuring things out.

Before asking someone to spend their time on a question, try a quick search.

Learning to ask good questions pays off over time. Especially when you're adept in googling with the right keywords.
